INTRODUCTION
Hitachi customers can now leverage deduplication to eliminate redundant data and realize enhanced capacity efficiencies. This tool will estimate the amount of capacity that can be saved by levering the power of deduplication. The savings estimated by this tool is only for lower Capital Expenditures (CapEx) as the need to purchase more capacity or additional systems will be reduced or deferred. However, please remember that deduplication also delivers Operational Expenditures (OpEx) savings as fewer systems and less capacity requires less management, less floor space, fewer licenses and less power, cooling and maintenance.
INPUT SECTION
Step 1 Enter your Storage Capacity Requirements by inserting the amount of usable storage capacity (in TBs) for each tier of storage. They are not necessarily tiers, but three different classes of storage that will allow the tool better precision in determining current costs and potential savings. The tool will use industry cost averages (based on usable capacity) to determine the potential savings delivered by deduplication. You can change those rates and input your own values if desired.
Step 2 Enter the percentage of capacity for each of the various data types. The tool will use industry averages for deduplication rates for each of those data types to calculate the potential savings delivered by deduplication. You can change those rates and input your own values if desired. The percentages must add up to 100% before you proceed to step 3.
Step 3 Press the CALCULATE button to view the estimated savings delivered by deduplication.
INTERPRETING THE RESULTS
The comparative bar chart depicts the amount of capacity required both with and without deduplication. The section below the bar chart includes three key quantitative metrics that illustrate the value provided by utilizing Hitachi NAS deduplication. The lower section provides detailed information about the estimated costs of storage for each data type both with and without deduplication and the savings delivered by leveraging deduplication.
Hitachi NAS deduplication delivers the following benefits:
- Deduplication Without Compromise - Enjoy the benefits of increased capacity efficiency and reduced total cost of ownership
provided by deduplication without compromising performance or scalability.
- No Impact deduplication - Deduplication engines automatically eliminate redundant data when system is not busy to avoid
impacting file serving workloads
- Maximum Efficiency - Deduplication eliminates redundant data and enables customers to reclaim up to 90% of existing
storage capacity extending the life of existing storage assets.
- Less Administration - Intelligent "administration less" deduplication requires no manual scheduling, configuring, tuning or monitoring.
- No Wasted Space - Eliminates the need to set aside capacity to be used as temporary deduplication "workspace" and minimizes space needed to track deduplicated data, delivering greater ROI.
- Lowers CapEx - Deduplication eliminates or defers the need to purchase more capacity or additional systems to meet increasing storage demands.
- Reduces OpEx - Fewer systems and less capacity requires less management, fewer licenses, less power, less cooling and a lot less maintenance.
